About six months ago, my post-shower hair tangles were legendary – a running joke among my friends. Seriously, brushing my hair was a full-on workout. I constantly pestered hairdressers with the question, "Why is my hair so impossible to brush when wet?" That's when I learned that even though my hair is fine, I have a lot of it, making it a prime target for knots. Since then, I've been on a haircare quest to find solutions, and I've discovered a bunch of tips and tricks that have transformed my mane and my life. If you're battling knotty hair, read on, because this one's for you.

✨Choosing the Right Shampoo & Conditioner✨

Lesson number one in my hair-taming journey: Be picky about your shampoo and conditioner. It may seem basic, but this is where you want to invest in quality products. Seriously, splurging here is worth it.  Look for formulas that are ultra-hydrating.  My holy grail is the Hydrate Sheer from Pureology. It's been a game-changer for my knot-prone hair.

✨Use a Wide-Toothed Comb in the Shower✨

Game-changer number two: Get yourself a wide-toothed comb and make it your shower buddy.  Use it to gently comb through your hair while the conditioner is still in.  Keep combing as you rinse out the conditioner. This simple step makes a world of difference when it comes to detangling after your shower.

✨Immediately Use Leave-in Products✨

Post-shower, don't even think about skipping leave-in conditioner. It's a non-negotiable. My hair heroes are Briogeo's Don't Despair, Repair Leave-in Treatment and Bumble and Bumble's Daytime Protective Repair Fluid.  Both are amazing at detangling and leave my hair feeling silky smooth. Look for leave-in conditioners that specifically target knots and tangles. Trust me, your hair will thank you.

✨Use a Wet Brush While the Treatment is in Your Hair✨

Brushing your hair while it's wet doesn't have to be a disaster, as long as you use the right tools and techniques.  Make sure you're using a brush specifically designed for wet hair (aka a Wet Brush) and only start brushing after you've applied a leave-in conditioner. My hairdressers have told me this allows the brush to glide through your hair, preventing breakage and minimizing damage.

✨Air Dry as Much as Possible✨

Finally, we all know that regular heat styling is tough on hair. But for my knot-prone locks, it's especially damaging. I've noticed a direct correlation between the amount of heat styling I do and the number of tangles I have to deal with. So, I try my best to avoid heat styling whenever possible. It's a small sacrifice for happier, healthier hair.

Hopefully this helps with your own hair journey!! 🩷🩷🩷
